Scientific Foresight

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. *

Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher (1788 – 1860)

Looking back on my career it has become evident to me now, perhaps not necessarily so when I was younger that I have an amazing capacity for Scientific  Foresight, perhaps even one might say bordering on the ‘Visionary’.

I strongly suspect that  British Science and Industry may have missed out substantially because  grant funders weren’t always prepared to take a gamble on people like me.  Looking at the below it is staggering plain to see that the seeds of development  I have sown, have nevertheless, eventually become developed.

I  have feelings of pride in the below, even though I didn’t reap the benefits myself. God may not have given me riches but at least he BLESSED me with a brain and an ability to think  critically and independently which is sadly so lacking in so many in the World today and will, I sincerely believe be of critical importance to pull the World out of the ‘quagmire’ it presently finds itself in.

My Proposal

QCM ( quartz crystal microbalance)

I was probably the first to propose it was far more than just a mass sensor and that it could be used for simultaneous measurement of mass, viscosity and dielectric constant.

16 years ahead of my time

Now mainstream science is able to make use of my discovery

JK DuchowskiMicro-machined Sensors that monitor capacitance or the dielectric constant and respond to fluctuations in the QCM viscosity measurements described

And have recently been developed for on-line machinery lubrication monitoring  (2006)

Proposed and tested biological amplification techniques to cause QCM to respond to single molecular binding events –e.g. Enzyme –substrate Avidin-Biotin – worked but couldn’t persuade anyone to publish.

SERC were too short sighted to see this one!

Wrote a similar proposal to above based on development of a tuneable sono-chemistry system as all applicators were fixed at 22 KHz.  My hypothesis was the sono-chemical reactions ought to be power and frequency spectrum dependent.
